Christopher Doyle

Senior Associate Director, Undergraduate Admissions Office, Johns Hopkins University

        Chris DoyleChristopher Doyle is the Senior Associate Director of Admissions, and member of the senior management team in the Undergraduate Admissions Office at Johns Hopkins University. Over the past eight years Mr. Doyle has served on numerous state and national committees, and held leadership roles with the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC), and served as a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), Association of American College Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO), as well as the College Board. During his career as an Admissions Officer, Mr. Doyle has worked with students and families from across the United States, and overseas. Working directly with secondary school leaders, school counselors, junior colleges, and community based organizations to support their work helping students navigate the evolving landscape of higher education is something Mr. Doyle has a passion for.  

Jason Puryear

Senior Admission Counselor, Office of Undergraduate Admission, University of Virginia

       Jason Puryear Jason Puryear is a Senior Admission Counselor in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Virginia.  A native Virginian, he chose to stay close to home to attend college and chose the University of Virginia as his top choice.  After graduating from UVA in 2009 with a B.A. in History, he began working within the admission office as a member of the Outreach Office.  The Outreach team is a dedicated cohort of admission deans that works with underrepresented, low-income and first-generation college students throughout the college search, admission and selection process.  Their work includes not only recruiting students to the University of Virginia, but also working with college access groups, alumni organizations and community partners in order to promote the benefits of higher education to as broad of an audience as possible.  Entering into his fifth year with the Office of Undergraduate Admission, Jason is also working on completing a Master’s Degree in Higher Education within the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, which he expects to complete in May of 2014.

        Yul KwonYul has enjoyed a diverse career across technology, business, law, public policy, and media.  His work on television includes hosting America Revealed on PBS, anchoring LinkAsia on KCETLink, working as a special correspondent for CNN, and becoming the first Asian American to win the CBS reality show, Survivor.  In the private sector, Yul has held positions at Facebook (where he is currently the Head of Privacy Program), Google, McKinsey & Company, Venture Law Group, and Wiltshire & Grannis.  In the public sector, Yul's government experience includes serving as Deputy Chief of the FCC's Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau, an adjunct instructor at the FBI Academy, a legislative counsel in the U.S Senate, and a judicial clerk on the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.  

        Yul is active in a wide range of charities, particularly those seeking to increase the number of Asian American bone marrow donors.  He is a co-founder of the Council of Korean Americans and sits on the advisory boards of the Asian American Justice Center and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center.  

        Yul has been profiled in VIBE Magazine's annual Juice issue of people with power, People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive issue, and Entrepreneur Magazine.  He received his B.S. in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served on the editorial board of the Yale Law Journal.

Humberto Ho

Commissioner, Maryland Governor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American

 Humberto Ho       Humberto Ho, P.E. was appointed Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Commissioner of Maryland on September 2011.  As a Commissioner, his role is to bring together various organizations through events such as the Business Roundtable and Conference. 

        Mr. Ho is also very active in the community.  He believes that only by bringing our community together, will we forge a unified force to make our minority voice heard.  As part of the Advisory Board of International Leadership Foundation, Mr. Ho continues to carry this message forward to the young leaders of next generation about the importance of Community involvement. 

        Professionally, Mr. Ho is a licensed Civil Engineer.  He secured his B.S. degree from University of Maryland College Park and M.S. degree from University of Illinois.  Mr. Ho is the third generation Builder Developer from Macau, China.  He is the managing member of Ho Brothers Development and HOB Homes.

John Cheng

B.A.: Yale University, M.A.: Johns Hopkins University

        John ChengJohn Cheng received an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics with a specialization in Economic Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in 2013. He graduated from Yale University in 2011, double majoring in Economics and International Studies. At Yale, he served as Director of the Roosevelt Institute Center on International Development, a student think tank that works with governments and NGOs on projects in the field of international development. He also co-founded and served as Executive Director of a student organization that assists disadvantaged entrepreneurs in New Haven and worked as a graphic designer at the Yale School of Music. John currently serves as a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and will be heading to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for his first overseas tour in September 2014. In his spare time, John Cheng enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, coffee making, Taiwanese and Italian cinema, graphic design, cycling, and ping pong. 

Conor Foley

Economic Research Assistant, U.S. Federal Government

       Conor Foley Conor Foley attended Johns Hopkins University, participating in its 5 year BA/MA program for International Studies. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2011, majoring in International Studies and East Asian Studies, followed in 2012 by a master in International Affairs and International Economics with specializations in China Studies, Quantitative Methods and Finance. While in school, he took on a variety of jobs and internships, including at the U.S. Department of Treasury, the Department of Commerce, and the Council of Economic Advisers at the White House. These positions all allowed him to gain hands-on experience in economic policy analysis and economic research, dealing with issues from the 2011 Japan earthquake to the ongoing US oil and gas boom. Currently, he works for the federal government as an economic research assistant, where he analyzes commodity price movements, US trade patterns, and the relationship between oil prices and US GDP. When he isn’t working, Conor enjoys cycling, basketball, cooking and has recently been convinced to try yoga.

        Shelley Su

        Shelley Su is the Asia Policy Advisor at the British Embassy in Washington.  Previously, she has performed research for the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission and the National Defense University. She has held internships at the US State Department, at think tanks the Center for Strategic & International Studies and the Atlantic Council, and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan. She received her MA in international relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and her BA in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.

        Hannah YiHannah Yi graduated from Stanford University in 2009 with a major in International Relations and minors in Economics and Art History. Ms. Yi also holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs where she studied International Finance and Economic Policy. Currently, she works at the World Bank as a Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Analyst. Prior to the World Bank, she has worked as an analyst at Goldman Sachs and at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. Ms. Yi enjoys traveling, learning languages, and hopes to be living in another country in the next five years.

        Tsering Jan van der KujipTsering Jan van der Kuijp graduated from Harvard University in 2012 with a major in Government and a secondary field in Environmental Science and Policy as well as a Mandarin Chinese language citation.  During his time in college, he was local director of LIFT-Cambridge, a non-profit that specializes in providing direct social services to homeless and low-income residents.  Among other activities, he considers his experiences advocating and working at LIFT to be the best learning opportunity Harvard could ever provide.  After graduation, Jan received a U.S. Fulbright Grant to conduct pollution and risk assessment research in Nanjing, China, where he was finally able to apply his academic studies to the field and publish in several scientific journals.  He currently works in Washington DC as a Public Health Research Associate at Natural Resources Defense Council.  During his spare time, he enjoys basketball, breakdancing, reading nonfiction works, SCUBA diving, and daydreaming.
